Dear AuntMinnieEurope Member,
When Dr. Harun Yildiz is not conducting a pediatric examination or reporting a scan, the chances are that he’ll be deeply involved in the pursuit of art.
In a special feature article, he explains why he thinks art makes him a better radiologist and helps him to minimize burnout. You can also view a selection of his eye-catching images.
Since the death of Andrea Purgatori in July 2023, the Italian media has been gripped by the circumstances surrounding his medical care. The family of this well-known journalist is taking legal action against three radiologists and one cardiologist from Rome. One of the radiologists, Prof. Gianfranco Gualdi, has now appeared in a video on social media, suggesting he’ll be fit and ready to defend himself when the manslaughter trial begins in February.
Think of ESR and no doubt you’ll think of Vienna, which has been the home of ECR since 1991. In a significant announcement, however, the ESR has unveiled its plan to open a Brussels office in 2026. ESR emphasizes that Vienna will remain its operations hub.
In other news, women are underrepresented among authors of retracted publications, particularly in cases involving multiple retractions, Swiss researchers have found in a study published on 19 November.
To end this newsletter, I’d like to highlight a new book with a memorable title: “What I Didn't Learn in Medical School,” by radiologist Prof. Mathias Goyen, whom many of you will know. Maybe a good stocking filler for Christmas?
