Dear Ultrasound Insider,
When Prof. Harun Yildiz is not doing a pediatric ultrasound exam, the chances are that he’ll be deeply involved in the pursuit of art.
In a special feature article, he explains why he thinks art makes him a better radiologist and helps him to minimize burnout. You can also view a selection of his eye-catching images. If you want to learn more, please sign up for his free lecture, which is due to be given on the evening of 20 November.
Meanwhile, Swiss researchers have investigated the use of ultrasound on patients who are undergoing anesthesia. They reported that staff with limited experience in using ultrasound can accurately detect whether the person has a full stomach, but the same staff had only limited success in determining whether patients had an empty stomach.
Do private ultrasound clinics pose a risk to expectant mothers and their babies? This question has been the subject of a lively discussion in the U.K. this month. The Society of Radiographers has felt the need to issue a statement.
In other news, a respected team from the University Medical Center Groningen in the Netherlands has assessed the value of conducting physical examinations prior to ultrasound. Check out our report for more information.
Focused ultrasound continues to gain clinical acceptance as a treatment for essential tremor. The creator of the world-famous drama series “Downton Abbey,” Lord Julian Fellowes, has spoken openly and honestly about his own experiences as a patient.
These articles are just a small selection of the material we’ve posted during recent weeks in the ultrasound content area. Please check out the full listing here.
