France's High Authority for Health and the National Professional Council for Radiology and Medical Imaging (G4) has released recommendations on thyroid ultrasound and ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration.
Creation of the guidance was overseen by Dr. Valérie Lindecker of Caisse Nationale d'Assurance Maladie (CNAM) in Paris and Dr. Jean Tramalloni of Radiologie Paris Ouest. It is intended to reduce unnecessary ultrasound scans for dysthyroidism and to improve the use of the modality for characterizing nodules; it suggests clinicians perform fine-needle aspiration before conducting any nodule surgery.
