IBA secures Heidelberg contract for Proteus One

Ion Beam Applications (IBA) has signed a contract to install a Proteus One compact proton therapy solution for treating cancer at Heidelberg University Hospital in Germany.

The acquisition of the Proteus One system marks a strategic expansion of the hospital’s particle therapy program, which has been treating patients since 2010, IBM said. The contract includes the supply of the Proteus One system, as well as a multiyear operation and maintenance agreement.

The typical end-user price for a Proteus One system with a multiyear maintenance contract ranges between €35 million and €45 million, the company said. The hospital expects to start treating its first patients in the second half of 2030.
