Researchers from the Warsaw University of Technology have teamed up with Polish 3D printing startup OVE and printing technology company Memjet to develop a full-color extrusion 3D printer.
The 3D printer, called OVO, relies on a proprietary software to enable it to apply colors, textures, and information to 3D-printed models during the printing process. The printer is currently capable of creating models in a 210 mm by 300 mm area with a depth of up to 300 mm.
Lead researcher Dr. Robert Sitnik and colleagues believe the device could be useful in a variety of industries, including healthcare.
OVE will debut the OVO 3D printer at the upcoming 2019 Formnext fair in Frankfurt, Germany. The company plans to take preorders for the product (at an estimated cost of 10,000 euros) during the fair, ahead of its launch date in the second quarter of 2020.
