3D printing startup FossiLabs has released a new technique for creating fully porous 3D-printed structures capable of supporting bone growth within medical implants.
FossiLabs' 3D printing approach relies on a type of polyether ether ketone (PEEK) that allows clinicians to produce 3D-printed structures with pores both on the surface and on the inside of medical implants, increasing their stability, the company said. In contrast, most existing techniques allow for the creation of pores only on the surface of implants, according to the vendor.
The startup is currently searching for medical device companies to license its 3D printing technology.
