The advanced visualization (AV) market in Western Europe produced $435.1 million U.S. (377 million euros) in revenues in 2013 and is expected to grow to reach $557.5 million U.S. (482 million euros) in 2020, according to a new report from market research firm Frost & Sullivan.
AV software is helping physicians with growing diagnostic workloads to effectively visualize and analyze imaging studies, according to the company. In market trends, Frost & Sullivan noted that medium and large institutions with an extensive postprocessing workflow prefer enterprise-wide thin-client-based AV software packages, while smaller facilities with minimal postprocessing needs remain loyal to workstation-based AV software. Market dynamics are changing, however, as the demand for new imaging modalities that require AV workstations is nearing saturation, according to the company.
Notably, imaging and postprocessing activities have also moved outside of the radiology department into different specialty departments, increasing the market potential for AV offerings. Physicians are also increasingly seeking a common AV platform that will enable them to simultaneously view DICOM and non-DICOM images as well as share them across the enterprise, Frost & Sullivan said.
