Perspectum's 'long COVID' MRI software cleared in U.K.

Perspectum's software enabling the detection on MRI scans of organ damage due to "long COVID" has been cleared by the U.K.'s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).

The company's CoverScan MD software helps in the assessment of heart, liver, lungs, kidneys, pancreas, and spleen -- all with one scan rather than multiple tests, according to the company. It is thought that up to 30% of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 and who are symptomatic have "long COVID," that is, with effects that last longer than 12 weeks.

A variety of organs are vulnerable to underlying and long-lasting damage, which can be visualized on imaging studies. Perspectum is positioning CoverScan MD as a "one-stop shop" for long COVID detection.
