The Diagnostic Assessment Programme of the U.K. National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) has given GE Healthcare's Discovery CT750 HD high-definition CT system a positive appraisal.
NICE has recommended the scanner as an option for both first-line cardiac imaging of the coronary arteries in patients with suspected coronary artery disease and evaluating disease progression of these patients. It found that the Discovery CT750 HD's cardiac CT spatial resolution of 18.2 lp/cm enables reduced calcium blooming and improved stent visualization, and helps accurately quantify stenosis in coronary vessels.
"We recommend that when selecting CT scanners as part of their medium-term asset planning, service providers, working with commissioners and cardiac networks, take into account the benefits outlined in our guidance of access to new-generation cardiac CT scanners," noted Dr. Carole Longson, director of NICE's Health Technology Evaluation Centre.
NICE's Diagnostic Assessment Programme is designed to enable the U.K. National Health Service to identify and adopt technologies and equipment that are clinically effective and cost-effective.
