GE Healthcare is highlighting a number of new developments with its molecular imaging portfolio at this week's European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM) congress in Vienna.
GE's latest addition to the Hawkeye SPECT/CT platform, Infinia Hawkeye HD Enhanced, can deliver up to 50% lower nuclear medicine patient dose than standard cardiac and bone protocols and CT dose ranging from 0.1 to 0.7 mSv for attenuation correction and localization purposes, according to the Chalfont St. Giles, U.K.-based vendor.
The system's CT capabilities include Volumetrix IR, which registers Infinia SPECT studies to external CT scans of the same patient using the Hawkeye CT scan as a bridge, GE said. Also, its Evolution application allows for a high level of SPECT and nuclear medicine image quality at one-half the standard injectable dose, according to the firm.
Infinia Hawkeye HD Enhanced also includes GE's Ignite DICOM worklist offering, Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE)-compliant support for DICOM Modality Performed Procedure Step (MPPS), and a "free-geometry" gantry, the vendor said. Advanced applications such as Cardiac Morphing and Volumetrix MI, first introduced on GE's Discovery NM/CT 670 SPECT/CT scanner, have been migrated to Infinia Hawkeye HD Enhanced.
In other GE nuclear medicine news, the firm said it has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance for Discovery NM/CT 670. Systems are now being installed at customer sites in Finland, France, Switzerland, the U.K., Belgium, Australia, Israel, Morocco, and the U.S., GE said.
In addition, GE has announced a memorandum of understanding with Advanced Cyclotron Systems of Richmond, British Columbia. The firms will explore opportunities to collaborate on high-energy (24 and 30 MeV) cyclotrons and related equipment.
The agreement initially applies to emerging countries within the Eastern and African Growth Markets (EAGM) region, and it allows for coordinated bidding on projects that require high-energy cyclotron-related equipment for providing a PET and SPECT package, GE said.
