The International Society for MR Technologists (ISMRT) is preparing for the annual MR Safety Week. The event begins on 23 July and aims to boost awareness of safety standards for both technologists and patients when operating MRI equipment.
The idea of MR Safety Week was conceived following the 2001 death of Michael Colombini, age 6, resulting from a steel oxygen cylinder being brought into the MRI room during his exam. The initial goal of this week was to prevent such a tragedy from happening again and has expanded into a week-long event giving us a chance to refresh safety education and highlight some of the issues faced in the MRI, according to a statement from ISMRT.
This year, the organizers are offering a series of virtual meetings that will discuss safety in the MR workplace. Registration, which is free for society members and non-members, includes access to each virtual meeting, and registrants can pick and choose which meetings they wish to attend. Registrants can also earn continuing-education credits based on attendance.
