Russian researchers have developed a mobile ultrasound transducer that allows a single device to be used for applications that have traditionally been performed by either stationary or mobile scanners.

The transducer incorporates three modifications that allow it to be used for different purposes across different departments, from inpatient studies to emergency room exams to patient visits in the field, according to the team led by Alexander Berkovich, PhD.
The transducer's image quality depends on the number of channels receiving information; the number of channels varies from 48 to 192, according to Berkovich and colleagues.
The team expects the system to be implemented in selected medical facilities in 2019. The team is working with JSC Northern Press as an industrial partner to commercialize the probe.
