Dear Women’s Imaging Insider,
Most current guidelines for mammography screening recommend women start at the age of 50. But younger women may need to screen earlier than that, especially if they are symptomatic, according to review findings presented at the recent annual meeting of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR). Click here for full details.
We're also highlighting a case series presented at the RANZCR meeting that shows how CT plays a role in identifying ovarian torsion -- an uncommon but serious condition that involves the twisting of the ovarian vascular pedicle -- as well as research conducted by a team in Turkey that suggests that music lowers anxiety and pain for women undergoing mammography.
Be sure to take a look at our coverage of Prof. Dr. Christiane Kuhl, PhD's remarks to the German news magazine Der Spiegel regarding the state of breast cancer screening in Europe, and of research that suggests that the deep-learning algorithm Mirai shows promise for detecting interval breast cancers.
Finally, don't miss our article on the €16 billion acquisition of women's health vendor Hologic by private equity firms Blackstone and TPG.
