GE Healthcare has won a contract with the Kenyan Ministry of Health to help the country modernize its radiology infrastructure of 98 hospitals across 47 counties.
The contract is part of the Kenyan government program worth 38 billion Kenyan shillings (375 million euros). The healthcare transformation program in turn is part of its Vision 2030 initiative to create a globally competitive nation by 2030. The agreement was announced on 6 February in Nairobi at a ceremony attended by President Uhuru Kenyatta, Deputy President William Ruto, and James Macharia, Kenya's cabinet secretary for health.
Under terms of the deal, GE will provide 585 x-ray and ultrasound systems supported by long-term service contracts, as well as training and education programs, to 94 county hospitals and four national referral hospitals.
Over the coming months, GE will be working in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health, local project management partners, and project partners, including the relevant county healthcare administrators and recipient hospitals, to ensure the rapid and successful implementation of the program, according to the firm.
