The next edition of the Joint European CVD Prevention Guidelines, scheduled to be published in May, will be simplified so that guidelines for preventing cardiovascular disease (CVD) will be easier to understand and put into daily practice.
The fifth edition of the guidelines will be made available at the forthcoming EuroPRevent 2012 congress, to be held 3 to 5 May in Dublin.
A study interviewing representatives of national organizations active in cardiovascular disease prevention raised concerns that the 100-page fourth edition was too detailed and had too many references. The organizations interviewed are working in Estonia, France, Germany, the Republic of Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Russia, Spain, Sweden, and the U.K.
Progress in cardiovascular disease prevention on the continent according to the fourth version of the guidelines has been varied. The objective of the latest edition is to make the guidelines short but sufficiently detailed, and accessible in a number of languages and formats for better use by health professionals with their patients.
