The European Association for Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation (EACPR) has canceled its annual EuroPRevent meeting scheduled to take place in Turkey next month due to safety concerns.
EACPR is a branch of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC). EuroPRevent 2016 was to take place from 5-7 May in Istanbul.
"Numerous concerns have been expressed by delegates, sponsors, and faculty in the past few weeks, and based on the safety risk we feel this is the most sensible decision," the association said in a statement. "We apologize for this inconvenience and acknowledge the extraordinary efforts and collaboration of the Turkish Society of Cardiology and the local partners during the preparation of the congress."
The move is the second European healthcare meeting scheduled for Turkey to be canceled in the last few months. In March, the European Society of Thoracic Imaging (ESTI) canceled its annual meeting, moving it to Krakow, Poland for 23-24 October.
