Portable MRI developer Hyperfine has launched a clinical trial of its MRI Swoop system for brain imaging in stroke diagnosis and treatment. The 0.064-tesla scanner won the Best New Radiology Device award in the 2022 EuroMinnies.
The Acute Ischemic Stroke Detection with Portable MR (ACTION PMR) study will focus on the system's ability to assist clinicians in imaging brain tissue and making timely diagnoses, which could lead to more effective treatments, Hyperfine said.
MRI scans are recommended for diagnosing acute ischemic stroke within 12 hours of symptom onset by the American Academy of Neuroradiology; however, the limited availability of MRI scanners near acute care settings in many hospitals highlights the need for point-of-care MR brain imaging, the company noted.
