iCAD secures large Xoft contract in Spain

Computer-aided detection (CAD) and radiation therapy firm iCAD has won a contract with a cancer organization in Spain for its Xoft system.

The Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO), a multicenter cancer organization, has chosen iCAD to provide electronic brachytherapy technology for the treatment of early-stage breast cancer and gynecological cancers. It will introduce iCAD's Xoft Axxent electronic brachytherapy system at three hospitals in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Badalona, and Girona, Spain.

In addition, New Cáceres Hospital in Cáceres and Obispo Polanco Hospital in Teruel will use the Xoft system for the treatment of early-stage breast, gynecological, and nonmelanoma skin cancers.

These contracts make iCAD's Xoft technology available at seven hospitals in Spain, including Hospital Universitario Miguel Servet in Zaragoza and Hospital Clinico Universitario de Salamanca, the company said.
