UKIO 2025 puts focus on sustainability, wellbeing

The central themes of this week's UK Imaging and Oncology Congress (UKIO 2025) in Liverpool have been the environmental impact of radiology, sustainability, education, and the wellbeing of the workforce.

According to a report issued on 3 June by the Society of Radiographers (SoR), UKIO President and Chair Dr. Emma Hyde introduced the title of UKIO 2025, “Community & Consciousness: One Health,” which focuses on sustainability and builds on the theme of UKIO 2024, "Vision and values: Putting people first."

The latest edition of Imaging and Oncology, an annual publication published to coincide with UKIO, was introduced by Charlotte Beardmore. Imaging and Oncology’s new editor, Prof. Ric Khine, said the online publication would continue to focus on topics such as workforce development and emerging tech, while having more interactive digital capabilities.

Other highlights of the meeting were a Proffered Papers session on the theme of education and training chaired by Hyde; “QSI Quality Mark: Paving the path to sustainable quality improvement,” chaired by Charlotte Beardmore and featuring presenter Glenda Shaw, quality improvement partner at the Royal College of Radiologists and College of Radiographers; and a panel discussion on health inequalities in imaging, with Dr. Fredrick Lee, system director of diagnostic imaging services at Alameda Health System USA, and Steph Jones, senior transformation project manager at Cheshire and Merseyside Cancer Alliance.
