Image-guided therapy firm Brainlab has formed a partnership with spatial computing technology developer Magic Leap.
Under the exclusive deal, Brainlab will market a version of Magic Leap's technology platform that will help surgeons and other clinicians visualize and access medical imaging data, according to the firm. Brainlab's data management, cloud computing, visualization, and data preprocessing software will be combined with Magic Leap's spatial computing and experiential platforms. The combined package will be open to third parties interested in developing medical spatial computing applications for surgery, radiotherapy, and other critical medical interventions, Brainlab said.
This spatial computing development ecosystem will support the management, visualization, augmentation, and navigation of diagnostic imaging data for a broad range of clinical procedures, according to the company. Planning and simulation of interventional procedures in an office setting will be the focus of the first release; future expansions will include a mix of virtual worlds for the operating room, radiotherapy treatment room, intensive care room, and radiology suite, Brainlab said.
