Cerebrovascular imaging analysis software developer iSchemaView has formally released its Rapid ASPECTS software for assessment of early signs of brain ischemia in stroke.
Utilizing machine-learning algorithms, Rapid ASPECTS automatically generates a standardized score of brain ischemia based on the original Alberta Stroke Program Early CT Score (ASPECTS) 10-point manual scoring system, which relies on determining subtle changes in noncontrast CT examinations. Rapid ASPECTS automates and standardized this scoring process, which has traditionally required the expertise of an experienced neuroradiologist or stroke neurologist and has been shown to have significant interreader scoring variability, according to the company.
After receiving data from standard CT scanners, Rapid ASPECTS tilt-corrects images and then identifies the ASPECTS regions. Physicians can use a sliding confidence indicator to scrutinize suspicious regions and determine a final score, iSchemaView said.
The firm is presenting Rapid ASPECTS at this week's European Stroke Organization Conference in Gothenburg, Sweden. The software has received the CE Mark.
