French ultrasound technology developer SuperSonic Imagine said a recent large meta-analysis concluded its ShearWave elastography technology was accurate for staging liver disease in a broad range of patients.
Dr. Eva Hermann of the University Hospital Frankfurt in Germany shared results from the global retrospective meta-analysis of 1,340 patients from 13 sites during a presentation at the 50th annual meeting of the European Association for the Study of the Liver.
The 1,340 patients included 470 with chronic hepatitis C, 420 with chronic hepatitis B, 172 with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, and 278 with other liver diseases. Of the patients, 40.8% were found to have minimal or no fibrosis (≤ F1), 19.3% had significant fibrosis (≥ F2), 14% had severe fibrosis (≥ F3), and 26% had cirrhosis (F4).
The researchers found that liver elasticity measurements were found to be well correlated with the fibrosis grade, SuperSonic said.
