Turkish government approves Gamma Knife reimbursement

Radiosurgical and radiation therapy services provider American Shared Hospital Services (AMS) said the government of Turkey has approved reimbursement by its health insurance program for treatment of patients using a Gamma Knife radiosurgery system.

A Leksell Gamma Knife Perfexion system (Elekta) has been in use since May 2012 at the Florence Nightingale Hospital Group in Istanbul. AMS supplied the radiosurgery system through its EWRS Turkey subsidiary.

The radiosurgery system provides treatment for patients with malignant and benign brain tumors, vascular malformations, and trigeminal neuralgia, or facial pain.
