Healthcare information systems firm Cerner announced a joint venture to deploy its electronic clinical exchange platform in physician offices, hospitals, and community care facilities of the Wirral University Teaching Hospital National Health Service (NHS) Foundation Trust.
The joint venture with Wirral Health Informatics Service and the Trust will allow secure sharing of electronic patient information through a health information exchange. Six general practitioner practices and Wirral have already signed up for the first phase of the project, which is scheduled to begin by July.
The first phase of the project will deploy Cerner Hub EDI messaging to support the general practice workflow by sending clinical data from Wirral University Teaching hospital directly to the physician practices. Subsequent phases will ultimately integrate disparate hospital IT systems and build an electronic patient record that can be accessed from any care settings.
