Danish hospital launches stereotactic RT center

The Finsen Centre at Rigshospitalet of Copenhagen University Hospital has commissioned a TrueBeam Novalis STx accelerator from Brainlab to provide stereotactic radiotherapy (RT) to its patients with certain types of prostate and brain cancer.

On 15 March, it became the first hospital in Denmark to have this equipment. Rigshospitalet said it expects up to 400 patients a year to be treated with the system, which becomes the fourth dedicated accelerator at the cancer center.

The venue is also the site of Brainlab's European radiotherapy user meeting, scheduled for 16-17 March. Highlights of the meeting will include keynote presentations on new protocols for the treatment of lung, prostate, and brain cancers with radiosurgery.

More than 170 clinicians from nearly 90 different international cancer centers are expected to attend. The meeting will also include a comprehensive tour of the Finsen Centre, one of the largest cancer treatment centers in the world.
