Radiation therapy firm Varian Medical Systems has named the Maria Sklodowska-Curie Memorial Cancer Center in Gliwice, Poland, as the first hospital in Eastern Europe to become one of its European reference centers for education.
The hospital will conduct clinical training programs in advanced radiotherapy techniques, such as intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) and image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT), with Varian equipment.
The cancer center treats nearly 7,000 patients annually on nine Varian linear accelerators. In 2009, it became the first hospital in Poland to offer RapidArc radiotherapy treatments.
Other Varian education reference centers in Europe include leading cancer hospitals in Amsterdam; Copenhagen, Denmark; Clatterbridge, U.K.; Paris, Avignon, and Dijon in France; Leuven, Belgium; Berlin; Bellinzona and Luzern in Switzerland; Istanbul; and Porto, Portugal.
