Philips Healthcare is announcing the official opening of the Turku PET Centre at Turku University Hospital in Finland, where the first whole-body PET/MR scanner in the Nordic region is now in operation.
Philips' Ingenuity TF PET/MR scanner combines the molecular imaging capabilities of PET with the soft-tissue imaging capabilities of MRI. The system acquires PET and MR images sequentially, which allows overlaying of both sets of images to create a single fused image, according to the company.
The installation of the system was completed in November 2011 and the first patients began to be imaged in late January 2012. Turku University Hospital sponsored a day-long symposium on 29 February as part of the PET center's official opening ceremony.
