GE Healthcare announced the Lombardia Ministry of Health in Northern Italy has purchased 135 units of its pocket-sized ultrasound devices for use by general practitioners in the region.
Vscan is a pocket-sized ultrasound system roughly the size of a smartphone. It was introduced in Europe in 2010. The technology can help well-trained echocardiographers increase the number of diagnoses, reduce the number of unnecessary conventional echocardiography examinations, and reduce the number of patients spending time in outpatient clinics, according to the manufacturer.
