Siemens Healthcare is sponsoring an international student competition to obtain ideas on how technological progress and changes in society will affect global healthcare systems.
The competition, with the theme Future of Healthcare, is requesting abstracts addressing how healthcare systems will develop over the next 10 to 20 years, and what implications social changes will have on the affordability of medical care. Teams of up to three students specializing in disciplines such as medicine, biomedical engineering, and information technology may submit an abstract for review by 7 November 2011.
Authors of the 10 best selected abstracts will be invited to participate in an innovation think tank camp that will be held at Siemens Healthcare facilities in Germany during February and March 2012. Invited participants will have accommodation and travel expenses paid in full, and will receive a financial stipend during the eight-week program.
Participants will work on innovative products and solutions onsite and in project groups. Results will be judged by a jury, with a total of 15,000 euros ($20,874) of prize money awarded.
Sixteen students out of approximately 200 applicants from 25 countries attended the 2011 think tank camp held 15 June through 14 September in Erlangen. They developed simulations, models, and solutions for angiography, CT, and MR imaging.
