SERAM highlights Madrid hospital's visualization project

The Spanish Society of Medical Radiology (SERAM) is highlighting an interview discussing the impact of integrating advanced visualization tools and workflow.

Dr. Eliseo Vañó, medical director of CT and MRI service at Nuestra Señora del Rosario Hospital in Madrid, explained how the integration has transformed productivity, introduced "radiology report 2.0," and relieved the challenges associated with a rising number of increasingly complex imaging studies.

"First, it has allowed us to realize the usability of the spectral CT scanner we installed in 2021, enabling us to access all spectral reconstructions within seconds of activating the visualization tool," Vañó said, noting that the integration has allowed radiologists to perform more accurate and comprehensive assessments without interrupting their workflow.

Vañó described the advantages of incorporating task and workflow automation, such as voice dictation and autocompletion, into the clinical workflow. The change has reduced transcription errors and accelerated report production, he said.

"This is truly disruptive," Vañó added. "Furthermore, by integrating these features, we have reduced processing time per patient by approximately one to two minutes, significantly improving the team's daily efficiency."

Notably, one of the imaging department's biggest challenges has been managing the increasing volume and complexity of imaging studies, according to Vañó.
