AuntMinnieEurope.com MRI Insider

Dear AuntMinnieEurope Member,

In this edition of our MRI Insider, we're highlighting an educational exhibit from the European Congress of Radiology that offered insight as to how the modality can help clinicians determine whether a toxin is present in a patient -- and how it may affect the individual.

Dr. Rajapandian Ilangovan, a consultant radiologist at London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust in the U.K., and colleagues gave an overview of how MRI can be used to identify carbon monoxide, organophosphorus, and methanol poisoning. Click here for the full story.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the advent of diffusion MRI. Don't miss our interview with Prof. Denis Le Bihan, PhD, founder of NeuroSpin (which is part of the French Atomic Energy Commission [CEA]). Bihan is the radiologist and physicist credited with inventing the technique.

We also have coverage of research suggesting that 7-tesla quantitative susceptibility mapping MRI can reveal the long-term effects of severe COVID-19 on the brain. A story from the recent Journées Francophones de Radiologie (JFR) 2024 meeting held in Paris outlined France's new recommendations for endometriosis imaging, which include MRI. Also, take a look at our article on a Swedish team's research regarding prostate MRI. The group's findings suggest that skipping systematic biopsy in men with elevated prostate-specific antigen levels but negative MRI results does not appear to increase the risk of missed disease. And a study from French investigators underscores MRI's role in the differential diagnosis of benign and malignant renal tumor masses.

Don't miss our articles on an MRI model that predicts breast cancer therapy response and how "field-cycling" MRI can identify subacute stroke at low field strengths.

We invite you to visit our MRI content area regularly to keep up-to-date on key trends and research in the modality.
