Bruker debuted a new micro-CT scanner and an ultrahigh-field MR system at the 2014 World Molecular Imaging Congress (WMIC) in Seoul, Korea, that ended last Saturday.
Bruker's SkyScan 1278 micro-CT system is targeted at preclinical imaging scientists seeking to reduce radiation dose in animal studies, according to the vendor. It features a new micro-CT spatial beam shaper, which Bruker claims reduces absorbed dose by up to five times.
The company said that SkyScan 1278's flat-panel digital detector can acquire mouse heart and lung images without a contrast agent. A full-body animal scan can be captured in eight seconds or less, Bruker said.
Bruker is also unwrapping BioSpec 210/11, a 21-tesla ultrahigh-field MR system that uses its CryoProbe technology. Designed for small-animal MRI, BioSpec 210/11 is based on the firm's 21-tesla, 11-cm UltraShield Refrigerated (USR) magnet and makes use of Bruker's active refrigeration technology.
In other company news, Bruker said it has completed the first customer installation of its MPI PreClinical magnetic particle imaging (MPI) scanner at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf in Germany.
Bruker also noted that a new preclinical imaging center developed in partnership with the Singapore Bioimaging Consortium (SBIC) will open in October. The SBIC-Bruker Preclinical Imaging Center will offer demonstrations, training, and applications support for the firm's preclinical and multimodal imaging platforms.
