Dear CT Insider,

Lung transplants have become far more common procedures over recent years, but they still represent a huge challenge. So much can go wrong for these patients, and imaging plays a pivotal role, particularly in the many months of follow-up.

A group of French experts that includes former ECR president Prof. Philippe Grenier has shared its experiences with CT in these complex cases. Don't miss our news report.

French radiologists also have a strong track record when it comes to the detection of pulmonary embolism (PE), as shown by the pioneering work of Prof. Martine Rémy-Jardin, PhD, from Lille and others. Researchers from the Hôpital de la Cavale Blanche in Brest have published new research on the use of CT pulmonary angiography in PE, and it deserves your attention.

The findings of another important study were also published last week in European Journal of Radiology Open. The authors concluded that volumetric analysis of lung consolidation on chest CT scans can be used to predict the risk of COVID-19 patients dying in the hospital and aid in management decisions.

In the European Journal of Radiology, Chinese researchers have reported that CT images acquired at ultralow radiation doses can be used to produce 3D-printed models of wrist fractures that are just as useful as 3D models generated from standard-dose CT exams.

Rapid advances in CT and other modalities have made it very tempting to post images on social media, but it's essential to take care and devise a coherent strategy that ensures patient confidentiality. Interventional radiologist Dr. Chris Hammond has given considerable thought to this matter, and his latest column is worth a read. He also has some practical tips that work for him.
