U.K. updates cancer guidelines; Swede scoops top award; mobile device survey

Dear AuntMinnieEurope Member,

The U.K. Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) is well known for its clear, concise, timely, and practical guidelines on hot topics. Best of all, usually they can be downloaded free of charge.

The RCR's new recommendations on cancer imaging are well worth a close look, particularly because the authors take a multimodality approach and the U.K.'s previous guidelines were published in 2006. To read more, click here.

If you want to see a really stunning image, just take a look at the winner of the 2014 Wellcome Image Awards competition, provided by Dr. Anders Persson, the Swedish radiologist who is conducting some pioneering research on dual-energy CT. You can see the winner in our Cardiac Imaging Digital Community, or by clicking here.

A major trend in medicine right now is the increasing use of mobile devices, so Dr. Erik Ranschaert's recent survey about how exactly European radiologists are using these devices is bound to attract plenty of attention. For the results, plus his thought-provoking analysis, go to our PACS Digital Community, or click here.

Meanwhile, Portuguese researchers made a big impact at last week's annual scientific meeting of the Society of Interventional Radiology in San Diego. A group from Lisbon presented new information about prostate artery embolization, a promising treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia. Click here to learn more.

Audits can seem rather boring, but they're important and will be even more so in the future, according to Dr. E. Jane Adam, chairperson of the European Society of Radiology's Professional Organization Committee. She explains why everybody must undertake audits, and advises on how they can be planned and published. Get the story here.
