Week in Review: Dublin team tackles delays | Radiology reports in Germany | Hard-hitting U.K. investigation

Dear AuntMinnieEurope Member,

Time spent between imaging procedures can be incredibly frustrating for everyone, particularly clinical staff. Portering issues are often a bottleneck when it comes to in-patients, but inefficiencies can also occur in the radiology department.

Given the relatively small number of ultrasound procedures performed each day (five in the morning, three in the afternoon), a team from the Mater Hospital in Dublin has confronted the problem by introducing a more streamlined workflow.

Surgeons strongly prefer concise radiology reports, and significantly more surgeons and internists prefer structured reporting to free-text reports when compared with general practitioners. These are two of the main conclusions from an important German survey published earlier this week in the European Journal of Radiology.

Meanwhile, U.K. radiology must still be shuddering from an extremely critical assessment of the service made by the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman. Not surprisingly, this was our most-viewed article over the past week.

On a more positive note for the U.K., researchers from King’s College London received a certificate of merit award at ECR 2025 for their work on contrast-enhanced scrotal imaging. They’ve shared four clinical cases and images with us, along with practical tips and other information.

Dr. Sophie-Hélène Zaimi, known on social media as @TheFrenchRadiologist, has become quite a sensation in her native France. Don’t miss the Zoom interview with her, which was recorded by my colleague Claudia Tschabuschnig.
