Today we've posted photos of the Eurominnies 2023 winners receiving their awards. The sheer delight and immense pride and satisfaction are evident from the reactions of the trophy recipients.
The winners of the EuroMinnies were announced in our article on 19 February, after two rounds of voting by members of the Editorial Advisory Board, columnists, and past recipients and runners up. Most of the engraved trophies were presented by Stephen Wellman, director of content strategy at AuntMinnieEurope.com, during ECR 2023.
"I received so many positive congratulatory messages from colleagues, friends, and researchers from both the radiology and artificial intelligence (AI) domain," said Prof. Wiro Niessen, who recently moved from Erasmus MC, Rotterdam, to become Dean of Medical Sciences at University Medical Center Groningen, the Netherlands.
"This to me reflects the great collaboration we have been able to build in recent years between radiologists and AI specialists. It is this co-creation which will allow us to move from the potential of AI towards developing the trustworthy tools that can be adopted clinically at scale with positive impact for patient outcomes," he added.
Niessen pointed out that all the work for his EuroMinnies Most Influential Researcher prize was carried out in his previous post as principal investigator, Biomedical Imaging Group, Erasmus MC.
Prof. Marie-Pierre Revel, head of radiology at Hôpital Cochin in Paris and past president of the European Society of Thoracic Imaging (ESTI), received the Most Effective Educator award at the Vienna congress.
"So nice! I am extremely honored," she commented. "I will take good care of the trophy!"
Similar sentiments were expressed by Dr. Martina Pecoraro of the Sapienza University of Rome, when she discovered that she had won the Radiology Rising Star prize.
"It's such great news!" noted Pecoraro, who is a board member of the ESR's Radiology Trainees' Forum. "A trophy as a rising star means recognition and acknowledgement of my potential, growth, and success in the radiology field. It will serve as a motivation to continue striving for excellence and achieving new accomplishments in the future -- for patient care, for my mentor, for my teammates, and for myself."
The RadCast presenters, who won the Scientific Paper or Podcast of the Year, were unable to attend ECR 2023, but they received their trophy by courier delivery. "Brilliant news. Shows that we're having the right conversations!" commented consultant radiologist Dr. Uzoma Nnajiuba.
ESR President Prof. Adrian Brady -- who took part in the prizewinning episode, The vanishing radiologist -- sent the following message of support to RadCast: "Congratulations to you both, Uzoma and Jamie. It was a really enjoyable experience recording the podcast with you, and I wish you every continued success."
Titti Owman was also unable to travel to Vienna, but her Lund University colleague and fellow radiographer Boel Hansson, PhD, collected the trophy on her behalf.
"This is incredible news... A truly fantastic feeling!" Owman said, adding that the award indicates the growing importance and awareness of MRI safety and the central role of radiographers in this area.
Owman said she has received many messages of support and congratulations over the past month.
GE HealthCare won the EuroMinnies Best Radiology Device award for the Omni Legend PET/CT scanner, launched in October 2022.
"After years of hard work spent building Omni Legend from the ground up, it's great to see this system and effort recognized," said Sonia Sahney, chief marketing officer for molecular imaging & CT. "Congratulations to our impressive team of GE HealthCare engineers -- in close collaboration with our global partners and customers. We're already beginning to see the positive impact this system can have for patients and providers around the world."
Siemens Healthineers won the EuroMinnies 2023 trophy for Best New Radiology Software, given for Deep Resolve Boost. The product is used for MRI reconstructions.
"We are very honored to receive this award and want to thank everyone for their trust and their votes for us," stated Arthur Kaindl, PhD, executive vice president for Magnetic Resonance at Siemens Healthineers.
The Best New Radiology Vendor award went to Paris-based Gleamer, which now has over 50 staff and customers in 22 countries, mainly Europe, the U.S., and Australia.
"We are so proud and honored by this recognition," marketing manager Cécile Hourquet wrote in an email. "It's a real boost for our team. Thanks to the panel of judges for making our day so wonderful!"
