The U.K. Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) is to change its entry requirements for training in clinical oncology to help clear the backlog of trainees attempting to take the Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians (MRCP) PACES exam.
The requirement to have full MRCP(UK) status by the time of appointment will be temporarily suspended. Trainees who have not yet obtained this diploma will still be eligible for appointment in 2022 to an ST3 post in clinical oncology. Trainees who are accepted are expected to be successful in the part 1 and written part 2 examinations of the MRCP(UK) before they can be appointed.
The move comes after discussion with the Joint Royal Colleges of Physician Training Board, the Physician Specialty Recruitment Office, and the MRCP(UK) office, noted the RCR in a statement issued on 24 February.
