Pediatric radiologist Dr. Katharine Halliday has been elected president of the U.K. Royal College of Radiologists (RCR). She defeated eight other candidates, RCR announced on 2 March.
Dr. Katharine Halliday.Halliday's three-year term begins on 1 September, and she succeeds Dr. Jeanette Dickson.
In September 2017, Halliday was appointed national clinical lead for the Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) program for radiology, and her work on this project involved many personal visits to radiology departments in England. This face-to-face contact might have contributed to her election win. The Radiology GIRFT report was published in July 2020.
"I am delighted to have the opportunity of working with you all in the exciting years ahead. Thank you so much for the faith you have placed in me -- I promise to give it my all," she told RCR members.
In January 2021, Halliday was named the clinical director for radiology at Nottingham University Hospitals. She has a special interest in the imaging of suspected physical abuse and provides expert testimony for cases throughout the U.K. Also, Halliday is the former chair of the British Society of Paediatric Radiology.
