Siemens Healthineers and the Austrian-based general contractor PORR Group have held a topping-out ceremony for the High Energy Photonics Center in Forchheim, Germany.

The facility's shell was recently completed, with the planned factory scheduled to go into operation in 2023 with 700 employees.

Siemens Healthineers has invested 350 million euros on the center, which the company said is its largest single investment in a new construction project. The company said it will bundle the production, research, and development, as well as the logistics of x-ray tubes and generators in the factory. The factory is also being constructed for CO2-neutral operation of the buildings.

The factory will be fully digitally connected and will have automated equipment that Siemens says will help reduce production costs, increase product quality, and provide sufficient capacity for further growth.

The PORR Group started out as the Allgemeine österreichische Baugesellschaft (General Austrian Construction Company) and was established on 16 March 1869. The first listing of its shares on the Vienna Stock Exchange took place on 8 April 1869.
