The U.K. Society of Radiographers (SoR) has announced that the Commonwealth Games is requiring imaging volunteers to have their own professional indemnity insurance.
Diagnostic radiographers and sonographers who are required to have professional indemnity insurance to work also must have it to volunteer at the games. Though the organization procures insurance to provide coverage to some degree, volunteers must have their own professional indemnity insurance for a minimum of 5 million pounds (5.9 million euros), according to the website for the Commonwealth Games' Birmingham 2022.
Most importantly, SoR noted that its underwriters do not indemnify volunteer work as part of its membership package. A similar situation arose during the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, which forced the government to indemnify its volunteers.
