The European Society of Radiology (ESR) has released the findings of a large survey that assessed compliance with the European Council Basic Safety Standards Directive (BSSD) radiation protection requirements.
The findings were published on 7 October in Insights into Imaging.
The survey was conducted via ESR's EuroSafe Imaging Star department network and reassessed compliance with particular BSSD requirements that were reported in a 2018 survey. This survey had a 61% participant rate from 128 radiology departments, and it showed both improvement and lack of improvement in compliance, the ESR said.
"The 2021 survey results do serve to highlight again the need for co-ordinated intervention involving relevant European bodies, organizations and governmental agencies to address the important issues raised by this survey," it said in a statement.
