The Spanish Society of Medical Radiology (SERAM) is raising objections to a statement issued by the country's Ministry of Health about thrombotic events possibly linked to AstraZeneca's COVID-19 vaccine.

SERAM in particular is concerned that the announcement did not include information about the role radiologists play in diagnosing thrombotic events. It requests that future documents include that the diagnosis of thrombotic events in any location in the body requires a radiological examination.

SERAM noted that when cerebral venous thrombosis is suspected, imaging evaluation may be completed with a CT or MRI, depending on the presentation and the modality available. Radiologists are key to this process, the group said in a statement issued on 22 March.
