The low-cost, simple MRI bore cleaning system highlighted in our special feature on 3 November is already proving effective, according to the Australian research team that developed it.
"It worked perfectly," Paris Lyons, academic and magnetoencephalography technician at Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne, Australia, told AuntMinnieEurope.com.
Annalaise Takla, the group's radiographer, has received applications training on the facility's new MRI scanner (3T Magnetom Prisma Fit from Siemens). Lyons was the first test volunteer, so the pair were able to test the cleaning kit.
"We are starting a small number of activities in the workplace as new COVID-19 diagnoses remains at zero. We are not yet back to being allowed to do human research but will be ready to go when that is permitted," MRI radiologist Dr. Catherine Mandel noted. "It's good to know that the ingenuity resulted in a practical outcome and at a very low price."
