Week in Review: Will large congresses return in 2021? | Visionary new report from U.K. | Counting COVID-19's hidden costs

Dear AuntMinnieEurope Member,

Large face-to-face medical conferences are unlikely to return over the next year or so, judging by the recent decision of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) to hold its 2021 annual congress virtually. The event was due to begin in London on 28 August, so the ESC has made a very early decision to end the speculation.

ESC President Prof. Dr. Stephan Achenbach has spoken to us about the rationale behind this move. Achenbach is a highly respected cardiac imaging expert, and in a wide-ranging interview, he's also shared his thoughts on CT's role in COVID-19. Find out more in the CT Community.

Our regular columnist Dr. Giles Maskell is an original thinker with a genuine interest in clinical radiology. He's one of the key people behind a visionary new report backed by the U.K. Royal College of Radiologists, and given the authors' proven track record, it's well worth a read. Get the full details in the MRI Community.

One of the less visible aspects of COVID-19 has been the delays facing cancer patients, but how do you work out the precise cost? A study in the BMJ has provided some answers in this area. Learn more in the Women's Imaging Community.

Another BMJ study that deserves a close look is about the risks of hormone replacement therapy, especially for formulations that contain progesterone. The chance of developing breast cancer is higher for women in their 70s and those with long-term use, according to the authors.

Most radiologists and radiographers are keen to implement artificial intelligence into their practices, but they often don't know how to do so. A team from the United Arab Emirates has conducted some important research in this area. Go to the Artificial Intelligence Community for more on this story.
