A well-timed x-ray may have saved the life of a schoolboy from Glenswilly, Ireland, according to an article from Donegal News.

Harry Grant, an 11-year-old, was riding his bike near his home when he fell over the handlebars and cut his leg open. Grant received stitches from the accident and emergency department of Letterkenny University, but he kept saying his pelvic area was sore.

As a precaution, the doctor performed a full x-ray on Grant and found that a metal shard from the boy's bicycle brakes had landed just 3 mm from his femoral artery. The team at the hospital performed prompt surgery to remove the shard.

Grant is now doing well and recovering. But the boy's mother said that if the doctor hadn't ordered a full x-ray, the story could have turned out very differently, according to the report.
