The European Society of Radiology (ESR) announced its support for the Horizon Europe program's proposal to provide a platform for private and public companies to collaborate on healthcare research innovation.

The European Partnership for Innovative Health initiative aims to provide a collaborative platform through which private organizations, researchers, patients, regulators, and healthcare professionals can form partnerships. The proposal is planned for the first quarter of 2020, with public consultation open until 12 November.

Collaborative public-private partnerships between the pharmaceutical, diagnostic, and medical device industries and academia, along with patients and healthcare professionals, will foster medical innovation geared toward promoting personalized and patient-centered care in Europe, the ESR noted. Radiology research centers are particularly important drivers in innovative imaging solutions that may help address unmet medical needs.

For example, research on developing and implementing artificial intelligence-based image analysis tools may improve decision-making with imaging exams, early and automated diagnosis, disease prevention, and accelerated, personalized treatments for patients, according to the ESR.
