U.K. features digital technology in new long-term plan

The U.K. National Health Service (NHS) has released a new long-term plan that will focus on using new technology and digital services to achieve many of its goals.

The technology and digital agenda aims to provide patients with an array of services that will help them take a proactive approach to monitoring their well-being and better manage their own healthcare, said Sarah Wilkinson, chief executive at NHS Digital, in response to the plan.

This would allow patients to recognize their individual health risks and symptoms as early as possible and follow appropriate management protocols, she noted. Ultimately, improved digital access may reduce the demand for healthcare services.

"We know how challenging it can be for organizations ... to adopt new technology and digital systems," Wilkinson said. "We are completely committed to supporting NHS organizations on all aspects of this journey."
