Radiation oncology firm Elekta announced that its Leksell Gamma Knife Icon has been used for the first time in Switzerland.
The radiosurgery system was utilized on a 75-year-old male patient at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois (CHUV) in Lausanne. The patient had a cavernous sinus meningioma that was touching his optical pathways and required dividing treatment into five lower-dose sessions throughout the week.
Since this procedure in June, surgeons at CHUV have performed 53 procedures with the Icon.
