RCR urges end to U.K. radiologist shortage

The Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) used the International Day of Radiology (IDoR) on 8 November to call for the urgent expansion of the radiologist workforce to address serious shortages across the U.K.

The group produced two fact sheets, the first explaining what a clinical radiologist is, while the second addressed rising demand for medical imaging and why more radiologists are needed to interpret scans and x-rays.

The U.K. has only 48 trained radiologists per 1 million inhabitants, while Germany has 92, Spain 112, and France 130, according to the RCR.
