Poly Implant Prosthèse (PIP) founder Jean-Claude Mas has been sentenced to four years in prison for fraud, according to a report by United Press International (UPI).
He was also fined $103,000 (74,705 euros). Four other executives of the company received sentences as well: former General Manager Claude Couty was sentenced to three years in prison, Quality Control Director Hannelore Font and Production Director Loic Gossart were sentenced to two years in prison, and Research Director Thierry Brinon was given an 18-month suspended jail term, UPI said.
More than 7,500 plaintiffs participated in the case, charging PIP with substituting inexpensive industrial- and agricultural-grade silicone in breast implants and concealing evidence from experts, according to UPI.
